Local News:

Columbia Perl Mongers have been pretty quiet of late, but it's not to late to change that. We don't meet on any kind of regular basis, but there is an email group that we can use for perl-related questions. This would be a great virtual meeting, especially as it is limited only to those who are subscribed, so the spam level is pretty low. See below for information on subscribing to columbia-pm-list.

The 2002 YAPC:NA (Yet Another Perl Conference) will be held in Saint Louis June 26-28, 2002 at Washington University. This is a low-cost ($85) alternative to the larger Open Source Conference hosted by O'Reilly, and features many of the same speakers.

The 1999 Mizzou Linux Users Group Open Source Exposition was a resounding success. The Keynote Speaker was Eric S. Raymond, FetchMail programmer, emacs collaborator, author, and long-time advocate of the Open Source Model in software design. His talk inspired a great discussion.

Disclaimer: While I am associated with MLUG, I am not involved in the organization of this exposition, and can claim no credit for it. There are a lot of hard working people who deserve the credit.

History

The Columbia Perl Mongers was organized late summer in 1999, and serves as a means of exchanging information among users of the Perl programming language. Since most of us are alrady members of other users groups, we meet electronically with occasional social get-togethers.

The Perl Mongers provide web hosting as well as mail lists to member groups, and this allows hundreds of groups nationwide and world wide to share information with each other. While Columbia Perl Mongers benefits from this relationship, we are not controlled by the Perl Mongers, and operate autonomously, as does any other Perl Mongers user group.
